Just So Weekend

‘Just So’ is an annual weekend-long festival with an imaginative outdoor adventure; the only arts camping festival in the UK dedicated solely to children and their families. There’s an endless list of events at Just So, with all the classics and sparkly new options for 2017.

Dare you munch a mealworm or crunch a cricket? Consider how the future of food might look and try a creepy crawly for a snack with Insect Eating then adventure into the woods to forage with James Wood, author of The Forager’s Cookbook and cook and taste wild foods including flowers, roots, nettles and mushrooms.

Who says you can’t play with food? Keep your eyes peeled and prepare to get messy for more anarchic edible activity around the new Social Barn at The Social area of the festival including the brand new Just So Jelly Fight, Jellybean architecture challenges, Vegetable Skittles, Vegetable Juggling and Vegetable Jenga. Don’t miss the chance to make and play your very own instrument in a Vegetable Orchestra and of course, the famous Just So Midnight Feast and The Great Just So Bake Off.

To keep you going all weekend long, over 30 of the best artisan food and drink vendors will be serving food from across the world (with kids’ portions and a wide variety of vegetarian and vegan options). Sustainable seafood from The Fish Bar and The Mussel Pot, Indian street food from Chaat Cart, notorious hot dogs from Piggy Smalls, award-winning ice-cream from Ginger’s Comfort Emporium, delicious breakfasts from Mama Muesli, vegan cake from The Cake Doctor, wood fired pizzas from Streaza and Proper Pizza Co and Mediterranean street food from Castaway Kitchen will be served in an array of vintage vehicles and other sublime structures. Rode Hall Tea Rooms will also be open for homemade breakfasts, lunches and cakes made from the organic produce grown on the estate.

Even the tiniest foodies are catered for at Just So with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party hosted by the world-renowned Derbyshire based holistic, natural health and beauty brand Weleda in the Peekaboo Garden, the Just So baby-feeding boudoir, sponsored by Medela and high chairs and bottle warming facilities across the festival site. Meanwhile grown up festivalgoers can look forward to craft ale, artisan gin, bubbly and blissful botanical bars.

Just So is set in woodland clearings, rolling parkland, arboreal amphitheatres and lakeside spots in the Rode Hall Estate, Cheshire. The multi award-winning family arts festival, produced by Wild Rumpus, has revealed more of its programme of regional, national and international artists and performers and new areas for families to adventure through in 2017. Directors of Wild Rumpus have said:
“Thank you to all our incredible audiences who have adventured together at Just So to help us make it one of the best family festivals in the world today. Spending time together as a family, exploring the woods, venturing to the Lake at dawn, singing around the campfire, eating under the stars, dancing like wild things to incredible foot stomping bands and listening to stories that will fill us full of awe and wonder at the magical world around us….what’s not to look forward to. We can’t wait to share Just So 2017 with you soon.”
